Tragedy has struck the boxing world, and heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua finds himself recovering from a serious car accident. The incident, which occurred in Lagos, Nigeria, has left many reeling, as it tragically claimed the lives of two key members of his training team.
While Anthony Joshua was discharged from a Lagos hospital late Wednesday, returning home to continue his recovery, the shadow of loss remains heavy. According to TMZ, the champion survived the crash, but his longtime trainers lost their lives in the heartbreaking incident.
The accident unfolded on a busy Lagos expressway on Monday. Joshua and his team were in a vehicle that reportedly collided with a stationary truck.
The boxing community mourns the loss of Sina Ghami, Joshuaβs dedicated strength and conditioning coach, and Latif Ayodele, his trusted trainer. Both men were integral to Joshua’s journey, deeply involved in his preparation and growth as an athlete.
Emergency services quickly transported Joshua to a local hospital as a precaution. Though specifics about his injuries haven’t been fully disclosed, sources confirm he remained in stable condition throughout his stay.
After several days of medical observation, doctors cleared him to go home late Wednesday. While there’s no word yet on when heβll return to the ring, his priority shifted immediately.
Following his release, Joshua was reportedly seen accompanying his mother to a funeral home, a somber but necessary act to pay his respects to Ghami and Ayodele.
