Ayo Edebiri, the Emmy-winning star of FX’s ‘The Bear,’ is stepping into a new realm as she takes on the role of screenwriter for the upcoming live-action ‘Barney’ movie.
Not only is Edebiri set to pen the script, but she’s also reportedly in talks to star in the film co-developed and produced by A24 and Daniel Kaluuya‘s 59% Productions in partnership with Mattel Films.
The project promises a bold, reimagined take on the beloved purple dinosaur, with Robbie Brenner leading production for Mattel Films and Kaluuya producing alongside Rowan Riley.
Despite the ‘Get Out’ star’s role as lead producer, insiders have confirmed to Variety that he won’t be starring in the movie.
In an interview with the publication, Mattel’s chief franchise officer Josh Silverman spoke on the Barney reboot saying:
“If it’s not authentic, were not going to do it. We want to remain consistent to the authenticity, the DNA of ‘Barney’ but we also want to modernize.”
