Big news for the Baton Rouge rap vet! Boosie Badazz just caught a significant break in his ongoing legal saga.
Torrence Hatch, as he’s known off stage, won’t be seeing the inside of a federal prison. A San Diego judge handed him time served and three years of supervised release in his federal gun case. This ruling finally puts an end to a charge that’s been hanging heavy over Boosie since his 2023 arrest in California.
U.S. District Judge Cathy Ann Bencivengo delivered the sentence this morning, according to court reporter Meghan Cunniff. It’s a game-changer, regardless of whether that presidential pardon he’s been publicly chasing ever comes through.
The whole situation kicked off back in 2023. During a traffic stop in San Diego, police found firearms in Boosie’s vehicle. As a convicted felon, this quickly escalated into federal charges for firearm possession. Hatch later pleaded guilty in late 2025.
Boosie’s legal team wasn’t playing around, pushing hard for leniency this past week. His attorney filed a compelling sentencing memo, urging the court to consider probation and community service instead of jail time. The filing reportedly highlighted Boosie’s challenging upbringing and framed the incident as a “lapse in judgment,” stressing that there were “no identifiable victims.”
Clearly, that argument hit home.
This outcome also takes some heat off Boosie’s very vocal campaign for executive mercy. For the past year, he’s been consistently calling on Donald Trump for a presidential pardon, convinced he’s been unfairly targeted by the federal system.
He didn’t hold back, recently sending a blunt, all-caps message directly to the former president:
“Trump CHECK MY CASE OUT !! MY CASE WAS DISMISSED BUT BIDENS DOJ RECHARGED ME WITH THE SAME GUN CHARGE BIDEN PARDON HIS SON OF I WAS TOLD I AM THE ONLY PERSON IN THE COUNTRY FACING THAT CHARGE NOW. PRESIDENT TRUMP, I ALREADY WAS GIVEN A 10 YEAR SENTENCE N STATE N 2009 FOR 3rd offense MARIJUANA (grams ,grams, grams) I NEVER WAS EVEN OFFERED REHAB STRAIGHT TO PRISON. N TRUMP IM BOOSIE IM A RAPPER/ FILMMAKER FROM BATON ROUgE I Was TARGETED.. MY MOUTH N THINGS I STAND ON GET ME N ALOT SHIT BUT IM REAL!”
So, federal prison is off the table for Boosie, but he’ll be under supervision for the next three years. For now, this outspoken artist can focus on his music and films, free from the worry of another cell door slamming shut.
