Kodak Black caught a legal win this week. A Broward County judge dismissed charges against the rapper related to a traffic stop incident in Florida, ruling that prosecutors had no evidence to support allegations that he fled from police. On Tuesday, the judge granted Kodak Black‘s motion to dismiss. The case is now closed. Kodak’s attorney, Bradford Cohen, told BlkCosmo the outcome was expected. “We are glad the court signed the order granting the motion to dismiss. This case was not a fleeing and eluding case, and we demonstrated that fact through the video and deposition of the deputy,” Cohen said.
Kodak self-surrendered to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office in May after police issued an arrest warrant stemming from a February incident. The charge centered on claims that he ignored police commands during a traffic stop. The original warrant stated Kodak “did have knowledge that he had been ordered to stop” but “proceeded to flee from deputies.” Video evidence and witness testimony ultimately contradicted those claims. Back in May, Cohen pushed back against the initial arrest, characterizing it as part of a pattern. “It’s not unexpected, as this is usually the procedure we go through where there is an unfounded weak arrest and then followed up by yet another arrest for cases that allegedly take 5 or 6 months to investigate. At this point I think everyone agrees that Kodak is consistently being targeted.” The dismissal is one piece of good news for the rapper. Cohen is still fighting to get drug charges dropped in Orlando, where Kodak was arrested after police found him in possession of 25 grams of MDMA.
