Trailblazing director Diane Martel sadly lost her brave battle with breast cancer.

It has been announced that the visionary, who helmed iconic music videos for many of the industry’s biggest names, died on September 18. She was 63.

Ciara, a frequent collaborator, joined a growing list of names saluting Martel for the indelible mark she has left on music history. It’s a moment to reflect on the impact Black creatives have on the entire culture.

In an emotional statement, Ciara wrote:

“You believed in me and I believed in you! You will forever hold a special place in my heart and I am forever grateful for all the magic we’ve were able to make together. I know it was all God! Heaven has just gained an Angel. I love you so much @DianeMartel_ A.k.a. Miss D! Rest In Paradise.”

She also shared shots of herself on set with Martel, who directed videos such as ‘Promise,‘ ‘Love Sex Magic,’ ‘Ride,’ and this year’s ‘Ecstasy.’ It’s amazing how she brought so much life to Ciara’s already vibrant artistry.
