Diddy Wins Legal Battle Over Defamation Claims

Diddy scored a major win in his defamation case against lawyer Ariel Mitchell and her client Courtney Burgess, the man who claims he has video of Diddy sexually assaulting minors and celebrities.

Mitchell tried to get Diddy‘s lawsuit dismissed, but the judge rejected her arguments. The court found her motion to throw out the case wasn’t compelling enough to stop it from moving forward.

In the order dated September 4, the judge noted that Mitchell’s allegations weren’t mere opinion or hyperbole. The statements that Diddy sexually assaulted people and secretly recorded sexual partners have “precise meanings that are readily understood,” according to the ruling.

The incarcerated music mogul is suing Mitchell for spreading what he called “outlandish claims” and “baseless speculation” designed to feed public appetite for sensational narratives.

Beyond Mitchell, Diddy is also targeting her client Burgess for claiming he possesses video evidence of the star sexually assaulting celebrities and minors. Diddy flatly denies the allegation.

The mogul is seeking $100 million in damages, a figure that’s been increased from an initial request of $50 million.

Mitchell has pushed back forcefully. “This is just a pathetic ploy to silence victims and people who stand up for victims,” she told media outlets. “Diddy has time to sue but refuses to accept service for the lawsuits already filed against him. I look forward to countersuing and ensuring the court punishes not only Diddy but also his lawyers who filed this pathetic lawsuit.”

Diddy was found guilty at his 2025 federal trial on two counts of transporting prostitutes across state lines for sexual purposes. He was acquitted on more serious charges of sex trafficking and RICO violations.

His prison release date was recently moved up to February 5, 2028.
