In a candid and emotional interview, Tashera Simmons, the ex-wife of the late rapper DMX, spoke about the role of trauma in their tumultuous marriage. Simmons, who was married to DMX for 15 years, shared her heartbreaking account of trying to save the troubled artist from his inner demons.

“I wanted to save Earl,” Simmons said, referring to DMX by his birth name. “I knew the trauma he experienced as a child was at the root of so much of his pain and struggles. But I couldn’t fix him, no matter how hard I tried.”

Simmons and DMX’s relationship was marked by its share of ups and downs, including his numerous arrests and battles with addiction. But through it all, Simmons remained a steadfast supporter, determined to help the man she loved overcome his personal challenges.

“The abuse and neglect he faced as a child had a profound impact on him,” Simmons explained. “He was always running from those demons, but they never went away. I tried to be his rock, his safe haven, but the trauma was too deeply ingrained.”

Tragically, DMX passed away in 2021 at the age of 50, leaving behind a legacy as one of the most iconic rappers of his generation. In the aftermath, Simmons has continued to advocate for greater awareness and support for those dealing with the long-term effects of childhood trauma.

“Earl’s story is a tragic one, but it’s also a cautionary tale about the lasting impact of trauma,” Simmons said. “I hope that by sharing our story, I can help others who are struggling to find the resources and support they need to heal.”

Tashera Simmons’ heartfelt reflection on her marriage to DMX serves as a poignant reminder of the ways in which trauma can shape and define our relationships. Her unwavering commitment to her ex-husband, even in the face of his personal struggles, speaks to the power of love and the resilience of the human spirit.
