The upcoming feature film has found a home after Skydance Sports officially acquired the project, putting the wheels in motion for this highly anticipated reunion. Ice Cube and Nia Long will step right back into their iconic roles as the central couple, bringing their undeniable chemistry back to the big screen.

We first met this pair back in the 2005 classic Are We There Yet?, where Nick attempted to win over divorced mom Suzanne by driving her mischievous kids on a chaotic, unforgettable road trip. The movie became a massive cultural staple and an absolute box office smash, pulling in nearly $97 million worldwide and showcasing a softer, family-friendly side of the legendary West Coast rap pioneer.

From Blended Family Struggles to the Next Generation

The success of the original spawned the hilarious 2007 sequel Are We Done Yet?, which followed the newlywed couple as they navigated the struggles of a blended family and a nightmare home renovation. Now, almost two decades later, the narrative is shifting from parenting young kids to dealing with the next generation. In Are They Gone Yet?, Nick is about to face his wildest challenge yet: becoming a grandfather. The screenplay is being penned by Chris Hazzard and Mike Fontana, who are set to bring a fresh perspective to Nick and Suzanne’s aging family dynamics.

Beyond the movie screen, the franchise also left an indelible mark on television, inspiring a popular TBS sitcom spin-off starring Terry Crews and Essence Atkins that ran for three successful seasons from 2010 to 2013. The new sequel is being produced by Broken Road and CubeVision, with Cube, Todd Garner, and Jeff Kwatinetz producing, alongside executive producers Ben Hurwitz and Lauren Gennawey.

While official release dates and plot details are still under wraps, the anticipation is already building. We can’t wait to see how Nick handles his new grandpa duties!
