Music industry disputes have a way of leaving lasting marks. K. Michelle just revealed she’s part of an exclusive—and not in a good way—club at Sony Music’s New York headquarters.
During a recent appearance on Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay podcast, the singer claimed she’s banned from the building alongside two other extremely high-profile names. “Do you understand me, Michael Jackson and DMX are the only ones banned from the Sony Building in New York?” K. Michelle said in a shared clip. “I ran up in the building because I had questions. So they let me in but then they told me the police was on the way but I got in the building.”
K. Michelle, who has spoken publicly for years about music industry disputes and artist treatment, said the alleged incident occurred after she went to Sony seeking answers. She didn’t provide specifics about what happened once she entered the building, but her determination to get those answers is clear.
Jackson had a public dispute with Sony in the early 2000s, including sharp criticism of former executive Tommy Mottola. DMX also had a stormy relationship with the music business throughout his career. Both left marks on the industry that apparently still matter today.
K. Michelle hasn’t said whether she’s attempted to return to the building since the alleged ban. What we do know is that her story adds another layer to conversations about artist rights and how the industry treats those who push back.
The singer has been facing backlash following her debut on Bravo’s Real Housewives of Atlanta. K. Michelle has accused Porsha Williams and Drew Sidora of plotting against her, though fans have accused her of being paranoid and shifting the show’s energy.
