Milo Yiannopoulos is officially in ICE’s crosshairs. The Department of Homeland Security released his booking photo Friday, confirming he’s being held pending removal from the country.
DHS posted the mugshot on X while citing BlkCosmo’s original report about his arrest. Agents apprehended the controversial political personality Thursday at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport. He doesn’t look particularly pleased about it.
The timing deserves a closer look. Yiannopoulos previously worked as chief of staff for Kanye West, who’s set to perform Friday night at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans. So while his former employer takes the stage, Milo Yiannopoulos sits in detention.
According to DHS, Yiannopoulos, a UK citizen, legally entered the U.S. in May 2019 but overstayed his visa. The agency’s statement on the matter had a dry sense of humor: he “overstay[ed] his welcome.”
An immigration judge ordered his removal on July 22 after he failed to show for an immigration hearing. That no-show decision essentially sealed his fate.
DHS made their position clear: he’s leaving the country, and he’s doing it from a detention facility.
Yiannopoulos will remain in ICE custody pending his removal. The agency used the announcement to promote its self-deportation program, which offers undocumented immigrants $3,000 and a free flight if they leave voluntarily.
His arrest at the New Orleans airport Thursday marks the end of a long immigration case. ICE transported him to a detention center where he’s awaiting processing for removal.
The mugshot is now part of the public record. Meanwhile, just miles away, his former boss prepares for a sold-out performance.
