Misa Hylton Speaks After Judge Dismisses Lawsuit Against Former ‘Sister’ Mary J. Blige

The Queen of Hip-Hop Soul, Mary J. Blige, just scored a major win! A New York court has officially tossed out the lawsuit filed against her by her longtime friend and former stylist, Misa Hylton.

According to reports from TMZ Hip Hop, Mary J. Blige and her legal dream team, Lisa Moore and Andrew Pequignot, successfully got the motion to dismiss the suit. Hylton originally filed this back in July 2025, and the dismissal was granted “without prejudice” – meaning it’s not a final nail in the coffin just yet.

This “without prejudice” part is key: Misa could still pursue sanctions against the superstar if she really wanted to. However, her noticeable lack of follow-up, especially after Mary J. herself publicly labeled the lawsuit “frivolous,” strongly suggests that this whole dramatic saga might finally be winding down.

Fast forward to Tuesday (January 6), a New York judge officially dismissed the entire lawsuit. Judge Pahedra F. Perry-Bond stated that Misa’s failure to respond to Blige’s motion to dismiss essentially meant she “abandoned” her own claims. The judge didn’t hold back in her written statement:

“The court in no way condones parties filing lawsuits claiming millions in damages based on inflammatory accusations, only to have those very same parties abandon their allegations when faced with a motion to dismiss and sanctions. Plaintiffs and their counsel shall consider this a warning to refrain from engaging in similar patterns of behavior in the future. This written warning may serve as weighty evidence on a future application for sanctions if plaintiffs and/or their counsel continue to engage in similar bad faith litigation tactics.”

After the judge threw out her lawsuit, Misa Hylton finally broke her silence. Reporter and ‘The Breakfast Club‘ host Loren Lorosa exclusively got her hands on Misa’s heartfelt statement, which read:

“Over the years, there have been people very close to me who have hurt me deeply, and I chose not to pursue them even when I could have, and maybe should have. That reflection led me to ask myself why I would choose a different path for someone I once called my sister. Through this experience, I learned that mixing family, friendship, and business is not always wise, and that even in painful moments there are meaningful lessons to be learned. While I don’t agree with everything that was done, I chose peace. This entire ordeal has taken a significant toll on my mental health and has caused me to reflect deeply on life, memories, relationships, and their true purpose and meaning. I pray for healing for all of us.”

For context, Misa had accused Blige of interfering with her record label’s operations, specifically mentioning her star client, rapper Vado. But Blige clapped back, alleging that Hylton was operating a “fake company” to begin with.

It’s wild to think these two were thick as thieves for three decades before their friendship spiraled into such a public and messy legal battle.

And let’s not forget Misa Hylton’s own legacy: she’s not just Mary J.’s former stylist, but a true hip-hop fashion icon in her own right, and the mother of one of Diddy’s sons.
