Louisiana rapper Mystikal has pleaded guilty to a serious charge stemming from a 2022 assault case. The artist, whose real name is Michael Tyler, entered a guilty plea to third-degree rape on Tuesday in connection to an incident at his home in Ascension Parish. If you’re just catching up, here’s the Mystikal breakdown of what’s been happening.
Now, let me tell you what allegedly went down. The victim accused Tyler of beating, choking, and robbing her. She says he took her keys and phone so she couldn’t leave. While she was looking for missing money, she was forcibly assaulted. And it gets worse β authorities say after the assault, Tyler forced the victim to send him money through CashApp before letting her go.
Initially, Tyler was facing some heavy charges: first-degree rape, domestic abuse by strangulation, simple robbery, false imprisonment, and property damage. But he ended up pleading guilty to the reduced charge of third-degree rape.
He’s looking at up to 20 years in prison, with sentencing set for June. Had the original charges stuck, he could’ve been facing life behind bars.
This isn’t his first time in these kinds of waters, either. Back in 2004, Tyler was convicted in a sexual assault case involving his hairstylist. He served six years and had to register as a sex offender.
Now, we wait for June to see what comes next. This is definitely another dark chapter in his story, and we’ll be watching to see how it plays out.
