Mystikal‘s rape conviction has created a rift in his relationship with his son that shows no signs of healing in the near term.
According to Mystikal‘s attorney Roy Maughan, Million Tyler’s relationship with his father has deteriorated since the rapper was sentenced to 20 years in prison for sexual assault. The strain between them remains significant, with little movement toward reconciliation so far.

Maughan told BlkCosmo that Mystikal has made attempts to reach out to Million, hoping to repair the damage. “I don’t think that’s happening yet,” the attorney said plainly.
While Mystikal clearly cares about his son and wants to mend things, Million remains disappointed. He’s not ready to move past what his father has done, and that emotional distance is real.

According to Maughan, Mystikal is working toward making amends with his son and other people affected by his crimes, including his accuser. The attorney characterized his client’s approach to his sentence as a way of “giving people peace” by serving out his 20-year term.
Mystikal pleaded guilty to raping an unnamed victim who alleged that the rapper physically abused and sexually assaulted her at his Louisiana home in 2022.
Maughan explained that the plea was structured as what’s known as a “best interest plea”—essentially a legal maneuver designed to minimize his client’s sentence and manage the risks of trial.
Given Mystikal’s prior record—including a drug possession conviction and a 2003 sexual battery conviction—facing trial would have been perilous. Maughan stressed that a guilty verdict on any of the new charges could have resulted in a life sentence. His client’s status as a repeat offender would have triggered sentencing enhancements that made the stakes extremely high.
The multiple offender designation alone would have shifted sentencing calculations dramatically in the prosecution’s favor.
Notably, even after accepting the guilty plea, Mystikal disputes the core allegation. His attorney said the rapper maintains the sexual encounter was consensual, creating a complex contradiction in the case.

The drug charges, however, were harder to contest. Police had a warrant to search his home following the sexual assault allegation, and that’s when they discovered narcotics on the property.
Maughan noted that Mystikal has already served over three years in county jail, which counts toward his 20-year sentence. He has roughly 17 years remaining.
His attorney maintains that Mystikal is handling his incarceration well and accepting his punishment without complaint.
Million, though, is struggling with the weight of it all. He’s indicated a willingness to have a conversation with his father eventually, but he’s nowhere near ready for that conversation now.

Million was present in court when the victim recounted her experience, and hearing her testimony was difficult for him to sit through. He expressed hope that his father receives the help he needs while incarcerated, but his disappointment remains clear.
