Netflix Move Hurt Breakfast Club Engagement:Jess Hilarious

Jess Hilarious is opening up about the unexpected challenges that came with The Breakfast Club’s move to Netflix from YouTube.

Earlier this year, the long-running radio show entered a new multi-year partnership between iHeartMedia and Netflix. The deal brought the program, hosted by Charlamagne Tha God, DJ Envy, and Jess Hilarious, to the streaming platform’s global audience while continuing its radio syndication and audio podcast distribution.

But the transition also meant leaving behind the show’s long-established presence on YouTube.

In a candid message shared on social media, Jess said the change has affected the connection the show built with viewers over the years.

“I ain’t gonna lie. Since The Breakfast Club has been on Netflix, our engagement, our people, all the fans that we built up over time on YouTube, they feel neglected,” she said.

Jess explained that the agreement with Netflix also restricted the show from posting the same type of content on other platforms.

“Netflix was like, ‘Nope, we want all of it. Y’all can’t have no other social media presence,'” she said.

Despite the shift, Jess says the team is already working on ways to stay connected with their audience.

“But it’s okay,” she added. “Jess Hilarious got that in a bag.”
