Real Housewives of Atlanta cast member Shamea Morton is speaking out about what she perceives as unfair treatment from her co-stars. She’s suggesting that colorism might be playing a role in how some viewers and castmates have been responding to her on the show.
“I’ve been taking it on the chin from fans since I joined the cast,” Shamea told The Neighborhood Talk. “So it’s just nice to finally see that people are seeing things from my POV.” The conversation around Real Housewives of Atlanta dynamics has intensified as viewers dissect every interaction, and Shamea believes some of the criticism directed at her carries an undertone of bias.
Some viewers have accused Shamea’s castmates of judging her more harshly than others, particularly when she reacts to rumors or defends herself during confrontations. The treatment has left her wrestling with tough questions about what’s really going on behind the scenes.
“I was like, ‘What is happening? Why is it happening?'” she recalled. “Why me?”
The discussion gained momentum after Angela Oakley suggested that Ashley Byrom, a neighbor, had implicated Shamea in an affair with Ashley’s husband. Shamea denied the allegation, while several women criticized her reaction. Ashley later said Angela had twisted a neutral conversation into a “made-up narrative,” defending both herself and Shamea in the process.
“Out of everything in this world, why would I ever give someone permission to put my husband in the middle of an allegation like that?” Ashley wrote. “That doesn’t even make sense.”
Despite the mounting disputes and the kind of tension that feels like it belongs in a curated reading list of reality TV drama, Shamea said she does not see herself as powerless. She’s determined to move forward with intention and grace.
“I’m not a victim, but it’s like, ‘Well, okay. Why not me?'” she said. “I just hope at some point we can get to a space where we’re all one cohesive group. That’s my goal.”
On social media, however, many viewers pushed back against Shamea’s latest claims, accusing her of starting drama and then playing the victim. The reactions ranged from skeptical to outright dismissive of her colorism concerns.
