Marvel Criticized for Lack of Black Superhero Films

Marvel's Black fanbase is calling out the cinematic universe for its alleged maltreatment of Black-led projects. Wonder Man was recently canceled despite lead actor Yahya Abdul-Mateen II receiving an Emmy nomination and a second season being in development. The Blade remake starring Mahershala Ali was also scrapped after years of delays. This cancellation joins a troubling pattern including the discontinuation of Luke Cage, Moon Girl & Devil Dinosaur, Armor Wars, and Secret Invasion, alongside concerns about the sidelining of Black characters like Monica Rambeau and the new Captain America direction.

Black Deaths Investigation: Congressional Call to Action

The Legal Defense Fund is asking Congress to investigate a troubling pattern of deaths of Black people whose families and communities say deserve more scrutiny. In an August 24 letter to congressional leaders, the LDF called for creation of a congressional commission to investigate suspicious deaths across the country, improve federal data collection and make findings available to the public. The request comes as several recent cases have raised questions about whether local authorities are adequately investigating deaths quickly classified as suicides, accidents or undetermined causes.
