Over the weekend, panels hosted by icons from politics, entertainment and culture were packed with audiences ready to listen and enjoy themselves. The Top Fashion Moments at the 2026 ESSENCE Festival
The ESSENCE Festival of Culture 2026 took place in New Orleans from July 3-5, with Black icons across entertainment, business, and politics delivering inspiring talks and performances. Attendees showcased incredible fashion throughout the weekend. Teyana Taylor wore purple in a baggy jumpsuit and matching festival hat. Cardi B performed in a leather-and-fishnet bodysuit with metal rings and wild yellow hair. Patti LaBelle took the stage in a silky bright yellow suit with a train. Kandi Burruss gave business chic in yellow capris, light blue blazer, and matching scarf. Cynthia Bailey stunned in a full beige lace suit with matching heels.

Hannah Gann’s Racial Identity Scandal Explained
Nearly a decade after Rachel Dolezal became the face of one of the most infamous identity scandals in recent American history, another white woman has found herself at the center of a very similar controversy in Philadelphia. Hannah Gann, a teacher and activist known for her work in local racial justice and pro-Palestinian organizing, misrepresented herself as Black, Palestinian and Tunisian for years. In an apology posted online, Gann described herself as a white woman of Jewish heritage, acknowledging that she hid the truth about her background and lied to everyone in her life about who she was.

Boseman Family Feud After Death Continues
As Chadwick Boseman's widow, Simone Ledward, and his brothers continue their legal spat, newly revealed details have just made the situation even more complicated. In July 2026, Boseman's brothers filed to have his widow removed as his estate administrator, alleging that she hadn't distributed funds from the Black Panther star's estate intended for his parents. Although he died without a will, a 2022 court order established that his mother and father would receive a 50% share of his assets, with Ledward receiving the other half.
