Summer Walker on California’s Seven-Year Rule

Interscope Records sued Summer Walker seeking over $50 million damages over a 2017 joint deal requiring five studio albums. Walker's attorneys invoked California's seven-year rule, a 1944 law allowing workers to exit personal services contracts after seven years. The original deal offered a $110,000 advance and 16 percent royalty. Walker's attorney expressed confidence in her legal position while remaining open to resolution, though a countersuit is possible. Interscope stated it hopes ongoing discussions lead to an amicable settlement.
