Takeoff‘s parents are locked in a legal dispute over how to split settlement money from a wrongful death lawsuit tied to the late Migos member’s murder. Court documents obtained by BlkCosmo reveal the tension between his mother, Titania Davenport, and his father, Kenneth Ball, regarding funds from the case filed in Texas.
The divide hinges on competing claims about parental involvement. Titania argues she was Takeoff’s primary caregiver and financial supporter throughout his life, while Kenneth contends he deserves an equal share of the settlement regardless of his limited presence during their son’s years. It’s a familiar pattern in wrongful death disputes: money reigniting old family grievances and forcing courts to measure love in legal terms.
In her filing, Titania describes raising Takeoff as a single parent from birth, providing nearly all financial support until adulthood. She says she continued backing his music career early on and that once he found success, he reciprocated by supporting her expenses, including purchasing a home, vehicles, and covering daily living costs. She characterizes Kenneth’s role as largely absent, claiming he offered negligible financial help and no meaningful emotional support. She adds that Takeoff never provided his father with financial assistance.
Kenneth’s response is blunt: he claims entitlement to half the settlement money regardless of his limited presence in his son’s life. He argues Texas is the appropriate venue to resolve the distribution question since the wrongful death suit originated there.
Titania counters that Georgia, where the probate case was filed, should handle the distribution now that the Texas wrongful death case has settled. The jurisdictional battle adds another layer to what’s already a painful family matter. A judge has yet to rule on where the case should proceed.
Takeoff was shot outside a Houston bowling alley on November 1, 2022, at age 28. He’d been out with his uncle Quavo, his Migos partner. Patrick Xavier Clark was charged with the rapper’s murder and is scheduled for trial later this year. The shooting sent shockwaves through hip-hop and left his family navigating both grief and the complicated financial aftermath that comes with sudden, violent loss.
