Director Tasha Smith (Mayor of Kingstown) is taking the reins on a new Netflix film. This one’s based on the absolutely wild, true story of Lenore Lindsey, a bakery owner right out of Chicago, whose life took a turn that can only be described as a straight-up miracle. The script comes from Randy Brown (Miracles From Heaven), and it’s gonna star the incredible Academy Award nominee Taraji P. Henson as Straw, plus the super-talented rapper and actor Jo-Vaughn Virginie Scott, who you probably know better as Joey Bada$$.

This project is the second film to come from the creative minds of DeVon Franklin and Tyler Perry. They’re producing a whole slate of faith-based films for Netflix. Remember their first one, Ruth & Boaz? It hit #2 on the Global Top 10 Movies List (English), so you know it resonated with folks.

In this film, Henson’s character gets hit with a life-altering revelation that forces her to deal with her past. She has to find her faith again and discover purpose in the most unexpected way. It’s inspired by the viral 2024 news story about Lindsey’s miraculous experience. This one promises a mix of deep emotions and spiritual healing, which is something both Perry and Franklin are known for.

DeVon Franklin and Tyler Perry are producing, with Tony Strickland and Angi Bones for Tyler Perry Studios, plus Bart Lipton, on board as executive producers.

Smith’s return to directing for Netflix keeps her moving on up after some amazing TV work and her ongoing relationship with industry giants like Perry. You’ve got powerhouse performances from Henson and Joey Bada$$, plus a message of hope and healing. This inspiring true story is about to connect with audiences worldwide who are looking for something uplifting and faith-centered.
