Tina Campbell: Finding Prayer After Infidelity

Gospel Star Tina Campbell Says She Learned To PRAY … After Her Husband Cheated

Gospel singer Tina Campbell, one half of the legendary sister duo Mary Mary, has been in church all her life. She sang about Jesus, worshipped on stage, and built her entire career on faith. But according to Tina herself, she didn’t actually learn how to pray until her husband’s cheating scandal forced her to her knees.

Back in 2014, Tina’s world was rocked when her husband, musician Teddy Campbell, admitted to multiple affairs. The betrayal went public, messy, and devastating — forcing Tina to face the collapse of her marriage in front of the entire gospel world.

The Breaking Point

During a recent podcast appearance, Tina got real about that dark season. She said that despite a lifetime in church pews, she only really found prayer when everything around her crumbled.

“I had to pray for real for the first time,” she admitted, describing how her marriage, career, and peace of mind were all on the line.

For Tina, it wasn’t rehearsed church prayers or polished gospel lyrics. It was raw, desperate, and personal. That’s when, she says, her faith became authentic.

From Pain To Power

The aftermath of Teddy’s infidelity wasn’t easy. Tina had to deal with the embarrassment of public scrutiny, the heartbreak of broken trust, and the challenge of rebuilding a marriage that many thought was beyond repair.

But in the years since, she’s turned that pain into power. Tina not only stayed with her husband but also found renewed purpose in her solo career. Her album It’s Personal won an NAACP Image Award, and fans praised her for blending vulnerability with powerhouse vocals. Talk about Black girl magic!

She now calls that season her “Black girl magic moment” — the time when she transformed brokenness into strength and reclaimed her voice as a woman of God.

Faith, Family & Forgiveness

Tina says that prayer carried her through, helping her choose forgiveness and fight for her marriage. It wasn’t a quick or easy journey, but she’s proud of where she’s landed. We stan a woman who knows her worth and makes her own choices.

While some critics still side-eye her decision to stay with Teddy, Tina insists that it was the right move for her life, her family, and her faith.

Tina Today

Now, at 50, Tina is living proof that you can survive scandal, heartbreak, and public humiliation — and come out stronger. She’s still singing, still married, and, according to her, still praying like never before. A true testament to resilience and faith!

For someone who’s been singing gospel since the ‘90s, it’s wild to hear her admit she only truly discovered prayer in her 40s. But maybe that’s the real lesson: sometimes life has to break you down before faith can build you back up. And that’s something we can all relate to, right?
