Tommy Davidson is suiting up once again as the unforgettable Varnell Hill in a brand-new spinoff series ordered by BET+. The fan-favorite character from the classic ’90s sitcom Martin is stepping into the spotlight with his own show β€” The Varnell Hill Show β€” a workplace comedy set behind the scenes of his fictional late-night talk show.

The series is co-created by Martin Lawrence and Bentley Kyle Evans, reuniting key minds behind the original sitcom’s success. According to the official logline, the show will explore Varnell’s ongoing hustle to stay relevant in a fast-changing entertainment world. From chaotic writers’ rooms to network politics, the series dives into the wild world of television production β€” with satire, humor, cutaways, and even fourth-wall breaks to keep viewers entertained.

β€œIt’s been over 30 years in the making, and fans have been asking for it,” Davidson said in a statement. β€œDid you miss me? Well, now you don’t have to! I’m excited and honored to be a part of such a creative project with the brilliant mind of Martin Lawrence.”

While it’s still unclear whether Lawrence will reprise his role as Varnell’s rival, the series is set to feature β€œa mixture of exciting new characters and celebrity guest cameos” β€” so fans can expect plenty of surprises.

Behind the scenes, Lawrence and Evans are leading the charge as executive producers, joined by Jesse Collins, Dionne Harmon, Andy Horne, Stacy Lyles, Robert Lawrence, and Rae Proctor. BET+’s Rose Catherine Pinkney and Jason Harvey will also serve as executive producers.

With its unique mix of nostalgia, modern industry commentary, and sharp humor, The Varnell Hill Show is shaping up to be a must-watch for fans of Martin and new audiences alike.
