In a court response filed Feb. 27 in Los Angeles County Superior Court, Tyler Perry denied every single allegation brought by Mario Rodriguez and laid out his defenses. His legal team says the complaint doesn’t hold up and insists any interactions between them were consensual.
The filing also claims Rodriguez had hit Perry up for financial help multiple times before. According to the response, Rodriguez had a tiny role in Perry’s 2016 film Boo! A Madea Halloween and later came asking for help with housing, medical bills, and other expenses.
Perry’s lawyers straight-up called the lawsuit a money grab that popped up after he stopped dishing out cash.
Rodriguez tells a different story though. He says Perry made unwanted advances and sexually assaulted him after luring him in with talk of acting opportunities. According to Rodriguez, during a 2018 encounter, Perry grabbed him even after he told him to stop.
Rodriguez is asking for $77 million in damages. Perry’s team has also moved to bump the case to federal court as the legal fight keeps dragging on.
