The California Highway Patrol detailed that a southbound vehicle veered off the road and hit a concrete barrier on the scenic Angeles Crest Highway, just north of Los Angeles. While initial reports didn’t immediately name him, it has been tragically confirmed that the incident involved Vince Zampella.

The details emerging from the crash are truly heartbreaking. A passenger was ejected from the vehicle, and authorities shared that the driver became trapped inside. Vince Zampella: A Gaming Visionary and Industry Giant

For those immersed in the world of gaming, Vince Zampella was more than just a name; he was a foundational pillar. At the time of his passing, he was at the helm of Respawn Entertainment. But before that, Zampella made his mark as the CEO of Infinity Ward, the brilliant minds behind the groundbreaking Call of Duty franchise.
Under his sharp leadership, Infinity Ward crafted those early, iconic Call of Duty titles that didn’t just sell well, they reshaped the industry and became one of history’s highest-selling game franchises. His vision was instrumental in its phenomenal early success.

In 2010, Zampella co-founded Respawn Entertainment right there in Chatsworth, California. This studio quickly rose to prominence, creating a string of successful titles that captivated players across various gaming platforms.

Respawn Entertainment: Acquired by EA, Still Dominating

Electronic Arts saw the magic, acquiring Respawn Entertainment in 2017. Even after the acquisition, the studio didn’t miss a beat. They continued to drop major hits like the critically acclaimed Titanfall and Titanfall 2, the wildly popular Apex Legends, and the immersive Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.

Beyond Respawn, Zampella also oversaw an EA studio team located in Playa Vista, contributing significantly to the beloved Battlefield franchise. His role was expansive, guiding development across a host of high-profile projects under the massive EA umbrella.
Vince Zampella was 55 years old when he passed, leaving an undeniable legacy.

The Investigation Continues: Awaiting More Information

The circumstances surrounding this tragic crash are still under active investigation by authorities. As of now, we don’t have any further details on what might have contributed, whether it was speed, weather conditions, or any mechanical issues.
NBC Los Angeles has confirmed they’ve reached out to Zampella’s family for a statement, and they’ve also contacted Respawn Entertainment and Electronic Arts.

At this moment, no official public statements have been released from any party.
