The Beauty in Black actor came under fire after a clip from a past Instagram Live went viral, showing him describing LGBTQ+ people as an “abomination” while discussing sin and religion. The video quickly spread online, sparking widespread criticism.
Following the backlash, Smalls shared a lengthy apology, acknowledging the impact of his remarks. “I understand now how my approach may have lacked the love, humility, and awareness that I believe God calls us to have,” he said.
“I take full accountability… I truly regret that my words caused pain,” he continued, explaining that he has since taken time to reflect. “After looking back at what I said on my Instagram Live, I have taken the time to listen, really listen…”
Smalls also emphasized that his intent was not to harm anyone. “Nothing I shared was meant to condemn or harm anyone,” he said, adding, “Every human being deserves dignity, compassion, and most importantly love.”
He closed by saying he is committed to growth moving forward. “I am still learning, and I will continue to learn and grow… I am truly sorry for any pain or hurt that my words caused.”
