10 Best Big-Screen Black Rom-Com Couples

You just never know who could end up pairing up in a rom-com when it comes to Hollywood. Take Method Man and Kelly Rowland for example. Two-and-a-half decades ago, the Wu-Tang Clan rapper was riding high off his first feature film, How High, so much so that he dissed Kelly and the girls of Destiny’s Child on a handshake sometime around 2001.

Almost 25 years later, the two will soon be co-starring together in a romantic comedy by Amazon MGM Studios titled Relationship Goals.

More info on the upcoming film below, via Deadline:

    Relationship Goals

β€œβ€˜Relationship Goals’ is a funny and inspiring romantic comedy on finding lasting love and sustaining a healthy relationship at every stage of courtship. The book, based on Todd’s viral sermon series about dating, marriage, and sex, spent 13 straight weeks on the NY Times bestsellers list and debuted at No. 1 on Amazon, according to the streamer.

The script was written by Laura Lekkos (β€˜Somewhere Only We Know’), with prior drafts by Michael Elliot (β€˜R&B’) and Cory Tynan (β€˜R&B’). Rowland and Bart Lipton will executive produce while DeVon Franklin (β€˜Flamin’ Hot,’ β€˜R&B’) will produce. Linda Mendoza (β€˜Survival of the Thickest,’ β€˜Harlem’) is set to direct.”

With the progression both Rowland and Meth have made in their respective transitions from music to movies, we can’t imagine a better duo to showcase a little Black love on the big screen. Actually, the new pairing got us thinking of some classic Hollywood duos in Black rom-coms that showcased some of the best portrayals in terms of what it can feel like to be in love and all the emotions that come in-between. Whether you’re preparing for a Valentine’s Day movie marathon or just looking for some good Black cinema to watch during downtime on President’s Day, stroll down memory lane with us as we revisit the cinematic greats.
