Breaking News: Angie Stone Dies in Car Accident

0

It is with great sadness that we report the passing of legendary singer Angie Stone, who tragically lost her life earlier this morning in a devastating car accident. Stone, known for her soulful voice and contributions to the music industry, was traveling in her Sprinter van when it was struck by an 18-wheeler truck. The impact caused the van to flip three times, leading to the fatal accident.

As news of her passing spreads, fans and fellow musicians alike are mourning the loss of an iconic figure in R&B and soul music. Angie Stone’s career spanned decades, and she touched the hearts of many with hits like “No More Rain (In This Cloud)” and “Wish I Didn’t Miss You.”

Our deepest condolences go out to her family, friends, and all who were touched by her music. She will be remembered not only for her incredible talent but also for the warmth and spirit she brought to her craft. May she rest in peace.

American singer Angie Stone, who was nominated for three Grammy Awards, died at 63 early Saturday, a representative confirmed.

Deborah R. Champagne, Stone’s representative who last spoke with her shortly after 9 p.m. ET (0200 GMT), said Stone died in a car accident in Montgomery, Alabama, following a performance.

Guy Todd Williams, better known as Rahiem from the Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, which was the first rap group inducted into the Rock Hall, said nine other passengers were in a van with Stone during the accident. He said she was the only fatality.

“She left her indelible mark on the music industry initially as a member of the legendary rap group Sequence,” said Williams, who was signed to the same record label as Stone early in her career.

Stone, a native of South Carolina, was a member of female hip-hop trio The Sequence. The group’s most popular song, Funk You Up, peaked at 15 on Billboard’s Hot Soul Singles. Rolling Stone described it as the first rap hit performed by women.

The group was signed to the now defunct Sugar Hill Records, a label under of Warner Music Group, which also represented Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, among other artists.

Stone released her debut solo album, Black Diamond, in 1999. It was certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America the following year. Her highest charting album -“The Art of Love & War” released in 2007- peaked at 11 on the U.S. Billboard 200 and number one on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums.

Outside of music, she acted in several films with her debut being “The Hot Chick” alongside Rob Schneider and Rachel McAdams. Stone also starred in “The Fighting Temptations” with Beyonce and Cuba Gooding Jr.

Jobless Claims Reach Largest Weekly Spike

0

242,000 jobless claims were filed last week.

The number of jobless claims increased more than expected last week as more first-time applicants applied for unemployment benefits.

According to CNN, an estimated 242,000 jobless claims were filed last week, an increase of 22,000 from the prior week. Economists, however, were reportedly expecting to land around 220,000 claims.

The number of jobless claims filed last week is the largest weekly spike in more than four months. Weekly claims have also been at their highest levels since December.

Despite the uptick, the U.S. Labor Department said snowstorms in parts of the country and the Presidents Day holiday are to blame, which could result in some volatility, Reuters reports.

“Extreme winter weather was chiefly responsible for the pickup in initial claims last week,” Samuel Tombs, chief U.S. economist at Pantheon Macroeconomics, told the publication.

How Mass Layoffs at The Federal Level Impact Unemployment

What remains unclear is how the mass layoffs at the federal level, spearheaded by tech billionaire Elon Musk, who oversees the newly created Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), will impact claims. According to Reuters, federal employees file separate unemployment compensation, which is reported to have a one-week lag. The latest data from Feb. 15 shows 614 people filed for benefits, which is only up by one from the previous week.

“We will have to wait another week for the detail on precisely how many initial claims were filed nationwide by former Federal civilian employees, but the number totaled 614 in the week ending February 15, up just one — that’s not a misprint — on the previous week,” Tombs told wrote in a note to investors on Feb. 27, as reported by CNN. “It will take another week or two for the job cuts implemented mid-month to come through fully in the claims data.”

The February jobs report is scheduled to be released on March 7. Economists reportedly expect employment growth to increase again, predicting the U.S. will add about 160,000 jobs in February.

PartyNextDoor Issues Apology to Tory Lanez After Previewing Diss Track

0

PartyNextDoor (PND) recently found himself at the center of controversy after releasing a diss track aimed at fellow Canadian artist Tory Lanez. In the song, PND rapped, “F*ck what Tory Lanez say… I’m running that,” adding fuel to the fire with lines like, “I did everything he did, he’s just a running man… drama man… I’m the daddy let me slap you okay.” He also accused Lanez of copying the sound of rapper Meek Mill, stating, “You said I sound like Thug… you know you sound like Meek… One day, you’ll be me…”

The track came after Party misinterpreted comments made by Lanez in a recently leaked phone call. In the call, Lanez, who is currently serving time in prison, mentioned, “F* PARTYNEXTDOOR showed his best work of 2025, f* Drake showed his best work in 2025, and now na it’s time for me to come out na.” PND took these words as a slight, assuming Lanez was throwing shade at him, when in fact, Lanez was praising his music.

Recognizing the misunderstanding, PartyNextDoor quickly issued an apology to Lanez. “I was told about what you said without hearing your video for myself. You didn’t say anything that I wouldn’t say myself, now that I seen it I was wrong. City is stronger together,” PND wrote, acknowledging his mistake and emphasizing unity within the Canadian music scene.

Are the Benefits of Hot Yoga Really Worth the Hype?

0

I’ve never been a workout class girlie. I went to one or two in college, but it’s never been my thing. So, when my friend invited me to her weekly Core Power hot yoga, I was skeptical. First, I’m kind of self-conscious when working out in public (thank you, anxiety). Plus, I’m not super active. Most of my workouts are low-key and consist of 30 minutes on my handy mini stepper followed by 15 minutes of DIY Pilates. If I’m feeling lazy, I’ll trek a couple of miles on my walking pad and maybe do some arm curls. But nothing too intensive or sweat-inducing.

And from what I know about hot yoga — which wasn’t a lot, to be fair — it’s intense. Harder than Pilates, some might say. The allure of hot yoga, compared to regular yoga, is that it’s done in a “heated room, typically between 85-105°F with humidity hovering around 40 percent,” says celebrity trainer and founder of Train Like a Gymnast, Danielle Gray. “The practice combines traditional yoga postures, or asanas, with the added challenge of environmental heat stress, which creates a unique physiological response in the body.”

Eventually, my friend convinced me to come, bribing me with sushi and a bottle of wine. Turns out, I’m that easy. I was nervous to go, especially since hot yoga didn’t exactly sound fun. I mean, I’m prone to sweating, so doing heavy cardio in a hot and humid room sounds low-key traumatic. To my surprise though, it was kind of enjoyable and dare I say, not too distressing on the body. But was it actually benefiting me? I asked the experts before signing up for another class.

The Benefits and Risks of Hot Yoga

Is hot yoga easy? Hell no, but that doesn’t mean it’s not great for your physical and mental health. A 2013 study found that Bikram yoga (aka hot yoga) increases deadlift strength and lower back/hamstring flexibility while also decreasing body fat. Gray echoes this, noting that hot yoga “increases flexibility due to muscle warming, enhances cardiovascular conditioning, and possibly improves mental focus.”

I didn’t feel much in the first 15 minutes of my session. Nothing except shortness of breath and extreme dehydration, though Gray says this is common. “The downsides include a risk of dehydration [and] overheating.” Once my body adjusted to the heat and warmed up, I had this sudden burst of energy, as if I’d just downed three espresso shots.

I left my session four times because the air felt so heavy that I couldn’t breathe. And I would do it again.

After the session, I felt happier and proud of myself. There was this underlying satisfaction of “oh my god, I really did that.” My body, however, felt sluggish and extremely sore, more than it would after one of my typical workouts. Gray says this can happen because of overexertion. Your body’s flexibility improves due to the heat, which makes you prone to muscle strains. For example, I normally can’t touch my toes (I know, it’s bad), but during the session, my quads and hamstring were looser. So much so that I was bending my back and reaching my ankles without that usual discomfort feeling.

Hence why my limbs felt achy and tender once they cooled down. Muscle strains are pretty minor injuries — an ice pack or compression sleeve can soothe the pain — but they can occasionally lead to deeper issues, especially if they’re chronic, explains Gray. “From a biomechanical perspective, excessive flexibility without proper strength training can lead to joint instability.”

That’s why “listening to your body is crucial,” Gray says. This applies to hot yoga, but also any type of exercise or workout. If you need to take a break, do it. It might feel weird, especially if everyone around you is up and going. But your body is trying to tell you that it needs rest.

How to Start Hot Yoga as a Beginner

Okay, so you’re interested in hot yoga and want to know where to start? I got you. First, don’t be like me and just show up unprepared. Try going to regular yoga classes before you take on the heated version. Hot yoga isn’t all that different from any other yoga — it’s just “adding an extra layer of cardiovascular and mental resilience challenge,” Gray says. Mastering the basics of yoga first can make hot yoga feel less overwhelming.

Once you’re ready to try a heated class, “start at a reputable studio with certified instructors and be sure to read reviews,” Gray suggests. Some studios offer complimentary yoga mats and water bottles, whereas others require you to bring your own. Check first before going.

As for attire, I kept it simple with a sports bra and gym shorts, but honestly, wear what you want. Just make sure it’s breathable because it will be soaked in sweat. Don’t forget to listen to your body and take breaks during the session. If some of the exercises are too tough, ask your instructor for a modified version.

Also, if you need to leave the room because you feel claustrophobic or overwhelmed by the heat — something Gray says is common — do it. I left my session four times because the air felt so heavy that I couldn’t breathe. And I would do it again.

Hot yoga is only as good as you make it. That means knowing what you’re getting yourself (and your body into), going to the right teachers, and actively listening to your body’s needs. It’s not an easy exercise, and I wouldn’t recommend you do it every day, but it’s a fun way to get in some movement. Especially once you bring along a couple of your friends.

The Essence of Black Women in Hollywood: A Legacy of Talent and Resilience

For over three decades, Essence has been a leading voice in the African American community, showcasing the achievements and stories of black women in various fields, including entertainment. The iconic magazine’s celebration of black women in Hollywood is a testament to their enduring influence and impact on the film industry.

Early Pioneers

In the early days of Hollywood, black women were largely excluded from leading roles and behind-the-scenes positions. However, women like Hattie McDaniel, the first African American to win an Academy Award, broke down barriers and paved the way for future generations. McDaniel’s iconic performance in “Gone with the Wind” (1939) earned her a well-deserved Oscar, cementing her place in Hollywood history.

From Sidewalks to Supremacy

The 1970s and 1980s saw a surge in black talent, with women like Pam Grier, Jada Pinkett Smith, and Yvonne Budd, gracing the silver screen. Budchen, who appeared in a string of low-budget films, is considered a pioneer for her role in empowering independent women. These actresses paved the way for future generations, taking risks and pushing boundaries in their careers.

A New Era of Black Women in Hollywood

Today, black women are leading the charge in Hollywood, shattering glass ceilings and breaking stereotypes. Actresses like Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer, and Regina King dominate the scene, earning critical acclaim and major awards. Davis, who won two Oscars, excels in films like “Fences” (2016) and “The Help” (2011), while Spencer and King have proven themselves in films like “The Shape of Water” (2017) and “If Beale Street Could Talk” (2018).

Innovative directors and producers

Behind the scenes, black women are revolutionizing the film industry with their innovative approaches. Director/ producers like Patty Jenkins (“Wonder Woman” (2017)), Ryan Coogler (“Black Panther” (2018)) and Gina Prince-Bythewood (“Love & Basketball” (2000)), are redefining the industry’s representation of black women and repositioning them in key roles. NFL Star Stefon Diggs Files Lawsuit Against Basketball Wives Star Molly Qerim

0

NFL superstar Stefon Diggs has filed a lawsuit against model and TV personality Mulan Hernandez, aka Molly Qerim, accusing her of assaulting him, attempting to extort millions, and threatening to ruin his career. The Houston Texans receiver alleges that Hernandez showed up at his apartment on June 7, 2024, after a night of partying and began “aggressively berating” him.

According to the lawsuit, Hernandez ignored Diggs’ requests to leave his home and continued to escalate the situation. Eventually, she allegedly destroyed an expensive PC, damaged a $130,000 watch, and even threw his phone into the toilet. Diggs claims that Hernandez also punched him in the chest multiple times while threatening, “You won’t be playing this year,” which he took as a career-threatening remark.

After the altercation, Diggs left his home and distanced himself from Hernandez. However, the lawsuit claims that Hernandez and her friend, Brianna Mack, later attempted to extort Diggs for millions. Hernandez initially visited a hospital claiming symptoms from a fall, but days later, she reported being assaulted by Diggs, which he vehemently denies. Diggs maintains that any physical contact was in self-defense.

The lawsuit seeks monetary relief between $250,000 and $1 million, with Diggs accusing both women of trespassing, emotional distress, conspiracy, and other charges. In addition, he is suing Hernandez for assault and property damage.

On a personal note, Diggs appears to have moved on, having spent Valentine’s Day with rapper Cardi B, sparking rumors of a new relationship.
