Brandy and Monica are currently killin’ it on their *The Boy Is Mine* Tour! Can you believe it’s been over 25 years since that iconic track dropped? The tour is a straight-up nostalgia trip for us ’90s babies who grew up belting out their chart-toppers.

But the tour ain’t just about the music. It stirred up another memory from back in the day when social media started buzzing about when Brandy went to prom with Kobe Bryant! Talk about a power couple moment.

So, let’s get into it: What’s the real story behind Brandy and Kobe’s prom night? Did the *Moesha* star ever actually date the Black Mamba himself? Plus, we’ll spill the tea on why Brandy had to dip out early during a recent performance with Monica.

The story of Brandy and Kobe Bryant’s prom date

Flashback to ’96, before Kobe became the legend we know. He was just a high school senior at Lower Merion High, near Philly. And when prom season rolled around, he decided to shoot his shot – with a superstar!

Brandy was already a whole icon – hit album, her own sitcom, the works! They linked up at the Essence Awards that year, and Kobe knew right then and there who he wanted on his arm for prom.

“He came home from the Essence Awards and said, ‘I met such a nice, beautiful, intelligent, sweet person,’” his mother, Pamela Bryant, recalled to the Philadelphia Daily News. Mama knew!

Brandy later told the Daily News, “He asked me to go to the prom with him, and since he was a nice guy … I asked my mom, and she said yes.” Aww, young love!

After that magical night, they stayed friends and popped up together at events. But Brandy always kept it real – they were never anything more than friends. And you know the rest of the story: Kobe met Vanessa three years later, and the rest is history.

Brandy explains why she walked off stage with Monica

Now, fast forward to a recent show in Chicago on Oct. 18. Folks were shook when Brandy suddenly bounced mid-performance with Monica. TMZ caught the moment of the “I Wanna Be Down” artist telling the crowd, “Give me one second y’all, I gotta get my …”

And then… poof! She was gone, leaving Monica to hold it down solo without their epic duet. Of course, Brandy hopped on Instagram to set the record straight.

“I sincerely apologize for the abrupt end to last night’s performance in Chicago,” she wrote. “After weeks of nonstop rehearsals, last night I experienced dehydration and feelings of wanting to faint, everyone involved agreed that prioritizing my well-being was of the utmost importance. I still made the decision to try and return and give it my all despite not feeling OK. With having to make some adjustments and the show being very technical, unfortunately, it was impossible to fully connect sonically with the production.”

Brandy gave props to Monica for being a total queen and carrying the show “up with such grace and professionalism.” She also shouted out “the entire crew for their continued care and support.” Real sisterhood right there!

The “Have You Ever” songbird wrapped it up by saying she’s looking forward to “returning to the stage” alongside the “Angel of Mine” songstress ASAP. We’re here for it!
