Y’all already know Brittany Renner doesn’t hold back, and she’s been dropping gems about her spiritual journey and conversion to Islam. The 33-year-old influencer recently shared how Islam offered her a much-needed shield, admitting, “Islam provided that protection I needed while I was rebuilding myself.” It’s a powerful statement from someone who’s lived so much of her life in the public eye.
Back in late 2024, when Brittany Renner first started wearing a hijab, the internet went wild. Turns out, it was all tied into her secret, short-lived marriage to rapper Kevin Gates. By mid-2025, she stopped wearing the religious garment, sparking a whole new wave of online chatter about her faith and whether it was all for clout. But Renner seems to be staying true to her Muslim faith, simply choosing not to wear a hijab now, reminding us that in Islam, it’s often a personal decision for women, even if it’s mandatory in some countries.
This past July 2025, Renner told PEOPLE magazine that converting to Islam has made her life “better in every single category.” She’s not one to seek approval either, telling her Instagram followers that same month, “I don’t ask for permission or forgiveness, no am I in the business of convincing.”
In a previous Instagram post, she laid out her philosophy even clearer, declaring:
“I’m not interested in shrinking myself to fit in anywhere. I don’t have blind loyalty to any person, place, or thing. I also don’t need excuses to do what I want to do because I accept whatever comes behind my decisions. It’s still Alhamdulillah for everything! Hope this helps.”
Brittany Renner Converts To Islam And Secretly Marries Rapper Kevin Gates
Let’s rewind a bit to her brief moment as Mrs. Gates. On May 2, Brittany Renner and rapper Kevin Gates made what looked like their red carpet debut at the ‘Basketball Wives: Los Angeles’ Season 12 premiere. Renner was seen rocking a massive ring on her left hand, setting tongues wagging.
Just over a month later, on June 7, Renner dropped a bombshell: they had actually gotten married on April 6th and were already divorced by May 28th! Their romance, which reportedly started in 2022, had been a slow burn of online flirting and event appearances before that incredibly fast marriage and split.
She confirmed the whirlwind timeline with Real 92.3’s Bootleg Kev, stating, “We got married April 6 and divorced May 28.” However, she did add that their situation falls under Islamic rules and laws, which comes with its own set of nuances.
Brittany Renner Reveals Why She Converted To Islam And Shares What She’s Learned
Since the divorce and her decision to no longer wear the hijab, Renner is really opening up about her conversion to Islam. In a promo clip for her new podcast, ‘Facets Of Life With Brittany,’ she got super candid:
“I’m more than my body. I’m more than the sexy. I’m tired of feeling like a f**king circus animal. And Islam provided that protection I needed while I was rebuilding myself. I felt like a hermit crab without its shell. Quite literally cloaked myself with my clothing, with my hijab.
And even though — yes, I’m a spiritual person and these things that I’m even learning about Islam, just religion, they feel a little counterproductive — religion provided me the structure I never had. I had a new set of eyes when I came out of my hijab.
I never knew I was capable of such discipline. There’s a time and a place for everything. That’s definitely something I learned there. Nobody is entitled to anything, not a handshake or a hug. And I am more than this physical vessel. Hijab or not, the right people, person, opportunities will see that.
I got to lead with me. It was nice because I’m like, oh, you know, I didn’t have to suck in in my outfits. It’s like, I didn’t have to think about doing my hair. It was just me. And that was very healing within itself to just be Brittany. No performing, no butt cheeks out and shorts that look like underwear. Just Brittany.”
It sounds like Brittany Renner is truly on a path of self-discovery, embracing her faith and her identity on her own terms. It’s a journey we’re watching closely!
