Hilton Hotels Apologizes After Department Of Homeland Security Accuses ‘Independently-Owned’ Minnesota Hotel Of ‘Maliciously’ Canceling Reservations For ICE Agents

Whew, chile! Drama’s brewing with Hilton Hotels. They’re apologizing and looking into one of their Minneapolis-area Hampton Inn locations. This comes after the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) accused the “independently-owned” spot of “maliciously” canceling reservations for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents. Talk about a mess!

The tea spilled big on Monday, January 5th, when the official DHS X account went off. They didn’t hold back, calling out Hilton Hotels for one of their franchise locations. DHS posted, “NO ROOM AT THE INN! @HiltonHotels has launched a coordinated campaign in Minneapolis to REFUSE service to DHS law enforcement. When officers attempted to book rooms using official government emails and rates, Hilton Hotels maliciously CANCELLED their reservations. This is UNACCEPTABLE. Why is Hilton Hotels siding with murderers and rapists to deliberately undermine and impede DHS law enforcement from their mission to enforce our nation’s immigration laws?” They certainly pulled no punches!

The DHS also shared screenshots of what they say was an email exchange with the hotel. In one message, the Hampton Inn Lakeville property reportedly wrote:

“This email is in regards to the reservation you made with the Hampton Inn Lakeville property. We have noticed an influx of GOV reservations made today that have been for DHS, and we are not allowing any ICE or immigration agents to stay at our property. If you are with DHS or immigration, let us know as we will have to cancel your reservation. Please pass on this info to your coworkers that we are not allowing any immigration agents to house on our property. Reply at your earliest convenience.”

Then, in a follow-up, the hotel allegedly added:

“After further investigation online, we have found information about immigration work connected with your name and we will be cancelling your upcoming reservation. You should see a proper cancellation email in your inbox shortly from Hilton.”

The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) didn’t stay silent either, also sharing the alleged emails on X and asking, “Hey @HiltonHotels — why did your team in Minneapolis cancel our federal law enforcement officer and agents’ reservations?”

DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin spoke to Fox News, making it clear how serious this incident was. She stated, “The men and women of ICE risk their personal safety to protect American communities and enforce the rule of law. Hilton Hotels is discriminating against our law enforcement agents and siding with murderers and rapists to deliberately undermine and impede DHS law enforcement from their mission to enforce our nation’s immigration laws.” Wow.

After all that heat, Everpeak Hospitality, which operates the Minnesota hotel, quickly released a statement. They said:

“Everpeak Hospitality has moved swiftly to address this matter as it was inconsistent with our policy of being a welcoming place for all. We are in touch with the impacted guests to ensure they are accommodated. We do not discriminate against any individuals or agencies and apologize to those impacted. We are committed to welcoming all guests and operating in accordance with brand standards, applicable laws, and our role as a professional hospitality provider.”

Hilton Hotels themselves also issued an apology via their newsroom on X. They emphasized that this particular hotel is independently owned and operated, noting that “these actions were not reflective of Hilton values.” Hilton confirmed they were in direct contact with the hotel, who apologized for their team’s actions. They also stated, “Hilton’s position is clear: Our properties are open to everyone and we do not tolerate any form of discrimination.”
