After tearing up the court at Duke University, Chelsea Gray was a hot pick, landing with the Connecticut Sun as the 11th overall in the 2014 WNBA Draft. Talk about a baller move!

Injuries sidelined her for ’14, but she bounced back strong. Then came a game-changing trade to the Los Angeles Sparks in 2016. Teaming up with legends like Candace Parker, Kristi Toliver, and Nneka Ogwumike? That’s a recipe for success, and they clinched the WNBA championship that very year!

In 2021, she switched coasts and signed with the Las Vegas Aces, adding even more fire to her career. Back-to-back championships followed in 2022 and 2023, cementing her status as a true WNBA icon. And in 2025, she’s hungry for more hardware, leading the Aces back to the playoffs.

Off the court, fans are curious about this six-time All-Star. Who’s the queen standing by her side? Let’s dive into the story of her incredible wife, Tipesa Gray (formerly Tipesa Mercedes Moorer).

When Chelsea and Tipesa got married

Their love story began in 2014. It started how many modern romances do… with a DM slide! They connected, started vibing, and the rest is history.

Four years of romance later, they sealed the deal, getting engaged and celebrating their union on Nov. 2, 2019.

The Bel Air Bay Club in Los Angeles was the spot for their big day. And what’s a WNBA wedding without a guest list of stars? Candace Parker, Ify Ibekwe, and Jantel Lavender all came to celebrate their love.

Tipesa Gray is an athlete as well

Born March 5, 1990, in Long Beach, California, to Joe and Nona Moorer, Tipesa has always been surrounded by athleticism.

With siblings Joseph and Tiffany, she comes from a family where sports are in the blood. Joseph balled out at Northwestern Oklahoma State Rangers, and her uncle? None other than former heavyweight boxing champ, Michael Moorer. Talk about a winning lineage!

Tipesa carved her own path on the court, shining at Narbonne High School. Her talent earned her a spot on the Los Angeles Times All-City First Team during her senior year, along with All-Marine League honors.

She took her skills to California State University, Long Beach, where she played forward for the women’s basketball team.

She snagged both a Bachelor of Arts and a Master’s in sports management, later becoming the Director of Operations for Women’s Basketball at LBSU. From Social Media Specialist roles to Logistics Coordinator positions, she’s a multi-talented woman. Currently, she’s making moves as the Director of Athlete Relations for Transition Play.

How many children do the Grays have together?

The couple dropped the sweetest surprise on Halloween 2023: they were expecting!

In a glowing Instagram post, Tipesa showed off her bump while Chelsea held up an adorable onesie that read, “A Baby is Brewing.” They captioned it, “Happy Halloween!” Pure joy radiating from these mamas-to-be.

They welcomed their little prince, Lennox Ali’i Gray, in February 2024. And guess who the godmother is? The one and only Candace Parker!

Little Lennox is already a social media star, thanks to his proud parents. He’s even a regular at Mama Chelsea’s WNBA games, proving he’s a true baller in the making.
