Christopher “Kid” Reid is sharing a powerful testimony about survival, second chances, and listening to your body.
The 61-year-old entertainer revealed on Good Morning America that he recently underwent a heart transplant after being diagnosed with congestive heart failure — a condition that can be fatal if left untreated.
Reid told Michael Strahan that he initially ignored the warning signs. He noticed he was feeling more fatigued than usual, experiencing shortness of breath, and sleeping far more than normal. At first, he brushed it off as stress from years of touring and life on the road.
But last summer, his symptoms worsened, and he decided to check himself into the hospital. That’s when doctors delivered shocking news — he was in congestive heart failure. According to medical experts, the condition happens when the heart can’t pump enough blood to properly supply the body.
Doctors informed Reid that he was in a life-or-death situation and would need a heart transplant.
In what can only be described as a miracle, his medical team located a donor heart within nine days. The transplant surgery was performed late at night, and thankfully, it was successful. Reid is now in recovery and embracing what he calls a new lease on life.
The hip-hop legend says the experience was a major wake-up call. He’s now urging fans not to ignore unusual symptoms and to prioritize their health.
“Get it checked out,” he advised.
From rocking high-top fades in the ‘90s to now fighting for his life and winning — Kid’s story is a reminder that even the strongest among us have to slow down and listen to their bodies.
We’re wishing him a smooth recovery and many more healthy years ahead. ❤️
