boxing altercation drama just got real. Claressa Shields has been banned from all future Most Valuable Promotions events following a physical confrontation with fellow boxer Alycia Baumgardner during MVP MMA 1 in Los Angeles.
The promotion dropped the news on Monday with a statement on X. A video circulated showing the two fighters going at it inside a VIP section at Intuit Dome over the weekend. During the heated exchange, Shields appeared to slap Baumgardner’s hand after Baumgardner allegedly threatened to “beat her a–.” Her boyfriend, Papoose, was also present at the scene. This boxing altercation has everyone talking.
“Effective immediately, Claressa Shields is banned from all MVP events until further notice,” the promoter stated. “There is a time and a place for fighter tension and banter, but to physically attack a fellow athlete while there as a guest inside a private VIP area is unacceptable.”
MVP made their stance crystal clear with a conduct policy statement.
“MVP maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy for hostile, threatening, or aggressive behavior toward fighters, staff, media, or guests at any of our events,” the statement read. “Physical altercations outside the ring or cage are unacceptable in any MVP environment.”
Shields fired back on social media, claiming Baumgardner had been verbally aggressive first. She posted: “Imma continue giving bitches hell respectfully that lil ass girl said ‘I’ll beat your ass right now’ after already disrespecting me. Now you classy and playing victim.”
Baumgardner pushed back, calling the incident “unprovoked.” She said the situation was “entirely consistent with the individual involved” and claimed she was “physically assaulted without provocation.”
Shields also noted the matter “has been and will continue to be handled legally and professionally,” signaling this beef might head to court.
