On the fifth anniversary of Kobe Bryant’s tragic passing, CNN released a new documentary, “Kobe: The Making Of A Legend,” celebrating the life and legacy of the late NBA icon. The film reflects on Bryant’s extraordinary career, the profound influence he had on basketball, and the emotional aftermath of his untimely death.

Bryant, his 13-year-old daughter Gianna, and seven others lost their lives in a helicopter crash on January 26, 2020. The docuseries features heartfelt interviews with those who knew him best, including his assistant Elissa Grabow, NBA star Tracy McGrady, and sports journalist Scoop Jackson.

McGrady, overwhelmed with grief, recalled the moment he learned of Kobe’s passing: “I cried all day, all night. I couldn’t believe it… not Kobe.” Scoop Jackson shared how deeply the tragedy affected his children, who had a close bond with Bryant, saying, “Telling them was one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do.”

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver paid tribute, stating, “Kobe Bryant continues to inspire aspiring and current NBA and WNBA players, young athletes, and individuals motivated by his relentless pursuit of excellence. Our thoughts are with Vanessa and the Bryant family as we remember Kobe and Gianna.”

Bryant, a five-time NBA champion, left an indelible mark on the sports world during his 20-year career with the Los Angeles Lakers. Known for his unparalleled work ethic and “Mamba Mentality,” Kobe’s influence transcended basketball, inspiring millions worldwide.

The documentary offers a moving reminder of his greatness, resilience, and the legacy he built, ensuring that his contributions to sports and beyond are never forgotten.
