After playing college basketball at the University of Kentucky, De’Aaron Fox was selected by the Sacramento Kings with the fifth pick in the 2017 NBA Draft. When he arrived, the franchise began its post-DeMarcus Cousins rebuild era. De’Aaron’s breakout season came in 2022–23, when he averaged more than 25 points per game, earned his first NBA All-Star selection, was named to the All-NBA Third Team, and won the inaugural NBA Clutch Player of the Year Award after leading Sacramento back to the playoffs for the first time since 2006.

In 2024, De’Aaron Fox scored a career-high 60 points in a 130–126 overtime loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves. The next night, he scored 49 points in a 122–117 win over the Utah Jazz. He became the second Kings player to score at least 100 points in a two-game span, the other being Cousins.

The following year, De’Aaron was traded to the San Antonio Spurs and helped that team get back to the playoffs after a six-year drought. Now, fans want to know as much as they can about the athlete and who he’s married to.

Here’s what we know about Recee Fox.

Recee is an athlete as well

Recee (née Caldwell) was born on Sept. 9, 1996, to parents Ray and Alba Caldwell in Hemet, California. She has a younger sister, Desiree. The family moved to Texas, and the siblings were raised in San Antonio.

Recee attended Claudia Taylor Johnson High School, where she played on the basketball team and became one of the top high school prospects in the country.

She earned McDonald’s All-American honors and won two gold medals representing Team USA at the U-16 and U-18 levels. Her college journey took her from UCLA to Texas Tech University and later the University of California, Berkeley. This Olympic athlete memoir-worthy career path shaped who she became.

Recee not only played the sport but she also worked in basketball operations for both the Golden State Warriors and Washington Wizards organizations, bringing her expertise to the professional level.

Recee gave De’Aaron a black eye on their first date

Recee and De’Aaron met during the 2018 NBA Summer League. Recee was standing near the valet of a hotel in Las Vegas when De’Aaron walked past her.

“De walked by, and growing up in Texas (De’Aaron is from the Houston area), usually, hoopers know each other. But I’m two classes above him,” Recee told Andscape. “Obviously, I’ve watched De’Aaron for a long time … I figured he knew me. He didn’t know me, so he just walks by me.”

She decided to DM him on Instagram, and the two ended up meeting up in the lobby and talking for four hours. They began hanging out after that, and Recee said she knew he was serious about her when he attended her final college basketball game.

On their first date, Recee and De’Aaron went to a planetarium and then had dinner at a steakhouse. Before ending their evening, they headed to the basketball court for a little one-on-one game when Recee accidentally elbowed De’Aaron in the face. According to Recee, it happened when De’Aaron started playing lockdown defense on her.

“I did what I was taught to do … create space … Well, his face was right there, and I clipped his eye,” she explained per MySanAntonio.com.

All was forgiven though, as the two continued dating and De’Aaron proposed in 2020. The pair tied the knot two years later in Malibu, making their love story one for the queer identity of modern romance—bold, unapologetic, and authentically theirs.

How many children they have together

Today, Recee and De’Aaron have two children together.

Their son, Reign, was born in February 2023, and their daughter, Poppy, arrived in August 2024. Fox has built a life that balances his professional grind with precious family moments, from meal prep containers full of healthy snacks for the kids to quality time at home.

Fox has spoken about how much fatherhood has changed his perspective, saying family has become his “greatest motivation” and his anchor through the chaos of professional basketball.
