He wants everyone – especially those internet detectives – to chill out. According to Donald Trump, he’s perfectly healthy, sharp, and wide awake. So, what’s the real deal with those bruises?
In a recent sit-down with The Wall Street Journal, Trump addressed the speculation head-on. He claims the real culprit isn’t some secret condition, but simply aspirin. He says he takes it daily to prevent blood clots, calling it basic maintenance for his body.
“They say aspirin is good for thinning out the blood, and I don’t want thick blood pouring through my heart,” Trump said. “I want nice, thin blood pouring through my heart. Does that make sense?”
He even offered a more casual explanation for one specific bruise: a high-five gone wrong with Attorney General Pam Bondi. Apparently, her ring accidentally caught his hand, just a simple accident with unlucky timing.
Still, despite his explanations, those images have kept the conversation going. Visible bruises – sometimes covered with makeup or bandages – and reports of swollen ankles have definitely put Trump’s health under a microscope. He’s 79 and continuing his second term, but he insists there’s absolutely nothing to see here.
That same energy carried over when he addressed claims about being caught sleeping during meetings or public events. Trump strongly rejected that narrative too.
“I’ve never been a big sleeper,” he said. What folks interpret as him nodding off, he says, is just him taking a brief moment of calm.
“I’ll just close. It’s very relaxing to me,” Trump added. He feels photographers often catch him mid-blink and blow it out of proportion.
The former president also cleared up some confusion around a past medical statement. After initially telling reporters he had an MRI with “outstanding results” in October, he later clarified to the Journal that it wasn’t quite that serious. “Less than that. It was a scan,” he stated. His doctor, Sean Barbabella, later confirmed it was indeed a CT scan, specifically used to check for cardiovascular issues.
Trump’s health has become an especially sensitive topic, not least because of his consistent jabs at former President Joe Biden, whom he frequently labeled “sleepy.” Biden, who exited office at 82, was the oldest president in U.S. history. Now, Trump is on pace to potentially break that very record, making the scrutiny around his own well-being all the more pointed.
