Drake‘s legal team is pushing back hard on a copyright infringement lawsuit, dismissing the claims as nothing more than a cash grab. According to court documents obtained by BlkCosmo, producer Aviel Calev Hirschfield, who goes by Avi, filed suit on Friday alleging that Drake lifted the chorus from his track “Janice STFU.”
Hirschfield’s complaint centers on a specific timeline. He says he recorded the hook in January 2026 and circulated it among producers working with Drake. Then, come May, when the rapper released his track, Hirschfield heard what he claims are the identical lyrics and melody.
The producer says he provided timestamped audio files to support his case, but Drake’s camp allegedly refused to credit him or share any of the song’s earnings. That refusal, according to the filing, prompted the legal action.
Drake’s representatives aren’t entertaining the narrative. “These allegations are categorically, unequivocally, and completely denied,” a spokesperson told BlkCosmo. “There is not one iota of truth to these accusations.”
The statement escalates from there. Drake’s legal team characterized the lawsuit as a “manufactured and baseless attempt” to capitalize on the rapper’s name and success. They’re calling it an obvious money move dressed up in legal language.
“Drake wrote this song and has no connection or knowledge of this person full stop,” the rep added, drawing a hard line between the rapper and Hirschfield.
Copyright disputes in music happen regularly, but rarely with this level of categorical denial. Whether Hirschfield’s evidence holds up will depend on what happens in discovery and how well those timestamped audio files actually stand up under legal scrutiny.
