Eva Marcille is speaking out after watching Netflix’s latest documentary about the reality show that helped launch her career. During a recent television appearance, she admitted she was surprised by many of the stories highlighted in the series.

The Cycle 3 winner of America’s Next Top Model shared that she did not know about several of the allegations discussed in the docuseries. Appearing on CBS Mornings on Thursday, Feb. 19, Marcille addressed the three-part documentary released by Netflix. The series, titled Reality Check: Inside America’s Next Top Model, revisits the long-running modeling competition and explores both its cultural impact and its controversies.

Marcille, who won Cycle 3 of the series created by Tyra Banks, explained that she was not contacted to participate in the documentary. Although she appears briefly in the program, she said the producers did not approach her for interviews.

The documentary revisits past seasons of the show and includes commentary from former contestants. Several participants shared experiences that they say had lasting effects on their lives. The series also examines challenges and production decisions that have faced criticism in recent years.

Marcille’s response has drawn attention because she was one of the show’s most successful winners. While she acknowledged her surprise at the content presented, she focused her comments on her own experience and what she personally knew at the time.

Eva Marcille Reacts Publicly To The Netflix Documentary

During her appearance on CBS Mornings, Marcille spoke with hosts Gayle King, Nate Burleson, and Vladimir Duthiers. She described her reaction after watching the series for the first time.

“I watched it and after I watched it, I was gobsmacked,” she told Gayle King, Nate Burleson and Vladimir Duthiers. “I was in awe. … my mouth was wide open. To be a part of a club, and not know what’s going on in the club is crazy.”

Marcille explained that she did not have prior knowledge of many of the allegations discussed in the documentary. She stated that she was not asked to participate in the production. “They didn’t ask me,” she said. “It was very surprising.”

The documentary includes archival footage and new interviews. While Marcille appears briefly in the series, her inclusion mainly references her success following her win. The show highlights her as one of the contestants who built a career after competing.
Marcille, now 41, competed under her maiden name, Eva Pigford. At the time of her season, she was considered one of the shorter contestants. She addressed that experience during her television appearance.

“Being that I was the shortest girl on my season, and the idea of a Black girl and this short in the modeling business, it’s unheard of. It will never happen,” she said.

Her comments focused on the improbability of her win based on industry standards at the time. She did not directly address specific allegations made by other contestants. Instead, she emphasized that she was unaware of certain behind-the-scenes experiences described in the documentary.
