This win comes after the judge determined Megan Thee Stallion (real name Megan Pete) and her legal squad didn’t properly serve Milagro Gramz with pre-lawsuit notice regarding the alleged defamatory statements. The lawsuit itself stems from the highly publicized 2020 shooting incident involving Tory Lanez.
For those needing a refresher, Tory Lanez was convicted in December 2022 for the July 15, 2020 shooting. He was later sentenced to 10 years in prison in August 2023. Lanez, whose birth name is Daystar Peterson, faced convictions for assault with a semiautomatic firearm, having an unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and discharging a firearm with gross negligence.
Megan Thee Stallion Files Defamation Lawsuit Against Blogger Milagro Gramz Following 2020 Tory Lanez Shooting
Back in October 2024 (yes, you read that right), Megan initially filed her defamation lawsuit. She accused Cooper of acting as a “mouthpiece,” “puppet,” and “paid surrogate” for Lanez, especially after the shooting, his conviction, and the 10-year prison sentence.
The suit claimed Cooper was part of a targeted social media campaign to intimidate, harass, and defame Megan. It also alleged Cooper spread false rumors about the Houston rapper, aiming to punish and discredit her for publicly identifying Lanez as her shooter.
Megan’s accusations went further, including claims that Cooper trolled her relentlessly and even circulated a sexually explicit deepfake of the rapper online. That’s truly beyond the pale.
Judge Rules Milagro Gramz Is Not Liable Of Defamation In Megan Thee Stallion Lawsuit
Initially, on Monday (December 1), a federal jury in Florida *did* find Cooper liable for defaming the Houston rapper, ordering her to pay $75,000. But then, a day later, Judge Cecila M. Altonaga stepped in and entered a final judgment, dismissing the defamation claim entirely. Talk about a plot twist!
The judge’s final decision came after the jury ultimately categorized Cooper as a “media defendant.” Plus, it was found that Megan’s legal team hadn’t properly served the blogger with a pre-lawsuit notice regarding the alleged defamatory statements.
Interestingly, the judge also reduced Cooper’s initial damages owed to $59,000. Cooper and her legal team weren’t shy about sharing their side. She even took to X (formerly Twitter) to declare, “Defamation is a wash.” Her attorneys also released a strong statement:
“After we released our official statement yesterday, @/quinnemanuel (Megan’s attorneys) emailed Jeremy in an attempt to intimidate and threaten the Defense team to retract its statement.
@/quinnemanuel continued by releasing its own statement falsely accusing the Defense of making false and defamatory statements. Some, but not all, of the ‘Independent Journalists’ who were present during the trial aligned themselves with Megan’s attorneys and promoted the false narrative that the Defense team was somehow lying about the results of the trial.
Megan herself took to Twitter and accused the Defense team of lying. Hours ago, Judge Altonaga reduced her oral ruling to writing and it is clear that the Defense never lied about the results of the trial. The Final Judgment of the Court is that the defamation claim is dismissed. Any headline that reads that Megan won her ‘Defamation Suit’ is thus inaccurate.
How ironic is it that Megan sued Milagro because Milagro called Megan a liar… Yet Megan and her attorneys make false accusations and accuse the Defense team of being liars.”
