Kevin McCall’s Heartbreak: From Music to Struggles

Kevin McCall, once celebrated for co-writing Chris Brown’s early hits like β€œDeuces” and β€œStrip,” broke down in tears during a recent Back On Figg podcast interview, revealing just how rough life has gotten since his music industry glory days. For real, it’s a stark reminder of how quickly things can change.

The talented singer-songwriter and producer shared that he’s currently using an EBT card for food assistance β€” a shocking contrast to his past success in the late 2000s when he was crafting platinum hits alongside Breezy. It’s a hard pill to swallow when you’ve tasted success like that.

McCall got emotional as he opened up about feeling forgotten by the industry and the financial struggles he’s facing, including a $25,000 debt for unreleased songs he claims were never properly compensated. The industry can be brutal, fam.

β€œI wrote some of Chris Brown’s biggest records, but look where I’m at now,” Kevin McCall said tearfully. β€œIt’s crazy how this game can love you one minute and forget you the next.” He spoke that truth!

Meanwhile, Chris Brown’s β€œBreezy Bowl Tour 2025” has reportedly grossed over $106 million, highlighting the stark difference between where the two former collaborators stand today. Whew, talk about a divide.

Their working relationship famously fell apart in 2012, with McCall accusing Brown’s camp of blocking his credits and royalties. Since then, McCall’s life has been filled with public battles β€” from domestic violence allegations to ongoing child support disputes β€” all of which have overshadowed his undeniable musical talent. It’s like, when it rains, it pours. We gotta remember grace and redemption are always possible though.

Despite his pain, McCall’s vulnerability in the interview sparked both sympathy and tough love from fans, many urging the artist to seek healing and return to the music that once made him one of R&B’s most promising voices.
