Latto Confirms Gimme Dat is About Cardi B But It’s Not a Diss

Latto says her new song is about Cardi B calling her a “pussy ass,” but she’s clarifying that her response isn’t exactly a diss track. And based on her latest comments, she sounds open to squashing things.

The rapper went on “The Breakfast Club” Thursday and addressed the situation directly. Those lyrics in her new song “Gimme Dat”? Yeah, they’re about Latto says, directed at Cardi.

Here’s the context. Latto says she was caught off-guard by the whole thing. She’d just rushed out a verse for the “ErrTime” remix to help boost Cardi’s first-week album sales. A few days later, a leaked rant from Cardi had her taking shots at Ice Spice, and somehow Latto got caught in the crossfire.

Latto felt blindsided. She’d tried to be a good peer, only to have someone she considered a friend all over the internet calling her names. It stung.

She was pregnant at the time. Latto put her feelings on the track while her hormones were in overdrive. It’s a valid response to what felt like betrayal, even if it’s not exactly a full-blown diss record.

On “Gimme Dat,” she raps: “Bitch said what? Let’s clock it / Really got a Hermes store in my closet / Talkin’ ’bout buyin’ big mama a bag like my n**** ain’t already bought it.” The bars are pointed, layered with designer handbags and subtle shade. It’s the kind of response that lands different when you know the history.

Cardi did apologize online. But Latto pointed out they have each other’s numbers and have texted before. A public apology felt hollow when they could’ve actually talked.

They haven’t spoken since the “ErrTime” remix dropped in September. But Latto made clear she’s willing to have a real conversation about what happened.

Latto thinks people assume it’s a diss because they’re hearing the song fresh now. She emphasizes it was never meant to be a textbook callout track. She was just processing what was happening in her life at the moment. That said, Cardi’s move still left a mark.

Cardi caught wind of Latto’s interview and posted another apology and explanation on social media. But Latto’s message seems pretty clear: she’d rather handle this the right way, person to person, instead of trading statements online.
