Muni Long Denies Shading Mariah Carey With Latest Instagram Posts Featuring Impersonator: ‘Y’all Don’t Be Delulu, I Would Never Disrespect Queen Mariah’

Look, the internet was in a frenzy, but Muni Long quickly set the record straight. Folks thought she was throwing shade at the one and only Mariah Carey with her recent Instagram posts featuring a Mimi impersonator. But Muni, a true Lamb herself, swiftly cleared the air on her Instagram Story, writing, “Y’all don’t be delulu. I would never disrespect Queen Mariah!!!!!! Forever a Lamb 🦋.”

So, what got everyone talking? As part of the rollout for her new single, “Delulu,” Muni Long has been dropping a series of hilarious skits. These clips show her playing judge at a talent audition, watching different “talents” try their hand at her track.

Things really spiced up when Muni posted a video on Monday, November 24th, featuring a Mariah Carey impersonator tackling “Delulu.” Her caption was pure gold: “THE DIVA!?!!!! My cute lil number? ✨✨✨✨✨🪽 and maybe…I can come around to people singing my songs if this who singing it!”

She followed up with another post, saying, “AND YOU KNOW WHAT!? She could push me off of every ledge in sight. THANK YOU!!! I LOVE HA!!! 🦋 now go stream #Delulu and show some respeck!”

It’s clear Muni was playfully referencing *that* viral moment. Remember back in March at the 2025 iHeartRadio Music Awards? Muni Long and Tori Kelly performed a tribute to Mariah Carey when she received the “Icon Award.” Mariah’s reaction during their performance, which many interpreted as less than pleased, quickly became a meme.

Muni didn’t hold back then either. Responding to initial criticism about potentially disappointing Mariah Carey, she told critics at the time:

“Y’all don’t understand ‘Queen’ things. I don’t wanna say ‘y’all,’ but, the people that’s got a lot to say, you don’t understand how this goes… paying homage and having respect for people. You know what I’m saying? She asked me to do it. You thought I chose to get on TV and sing a Mariah Carey song? You thought that was my choice? Why would I do that? Nobody can sing Mariah’s songs like Mariah. Nobody. I didn’t choose that. She asked me to do it. And of course I said, ‘Yes.’ ‘Cause why would I ever say, ‘No?’

I did my best and that’s all I can do. But even if she hated it. Which she didn’t—‘cause I do have the footage of us talking afterward. But, I’m not gonna post it, because her lighting wasn’t right and I’m not gonna do that to my girl. You know how Miss Carey is about her lighting. Okay? But, she told me I did a great job and she appreciated it. And that’s it. Once again, if she pushed me down the stairs and she told me she hated it, I would say, ‘Thank you.’ That’s what I would say. Thank you guys that love me and uplift me. Everybody else, [Muni put up the middle finger].”

Fast forward to September, Mariah Carey herself finally spilled the tea to GQ, revealing the real story behind her viral reaction to Muni Long’s tribute performance. She confessed:

“I didn’t even hear the cover. I didn’t know it happened. No one told me. I just didn’t know that she had done ‘We Belong Together’ [as a cover] ‘cause her song was so similar to ‘We Belong Together.’ I had no idea that she did ‘We Belong Together.’ I’m very honored and flattered that she did it. I love Muni Long, she’s a great person, umm, but I just don’t like people doing my songs.”
