Two mothers from Minnesota say they want answers after their 12-year-old son’s teacher cut his hair without her permission last week.

Daetney and Tadow McReynolds, the boy’s mothers, said the incident happened during the school day last week.  They say they were shocked when their son came home from school with his afro missing.

“And he said, ‘Are you guys going to be mad?’ We were like, ‘For what?’ He pulls his hat off and goes, ‘My teacher cut my hair,” Tadow told WCCO 4.

Tadow said her son explained to her that he had a “breakdown” and started cutting his own hair off in class because he didn’t like his hair’s line up. He told her that’s when the teacher — whose identity has also been withheld — grabbed some scissors and began to cut the boy’s hair off, offering to “fix it.”

The child’s mothers say they are upset and want to know why they were not notified.

“What made her think that this is OK? If you were going to help my child why wouldn’t you do it the proper way, [the] common-sense way, the helpful way? By getting him some real help?,” Tadow asked.

The 12-year-old’s parents say they want the teacher involved to be held accountable.
