Stefon Diggs finally broke his silence, speaking with reporters for the first time since serious felony charges hit the public eye. The New England Patriots wide receiver faced the media in the team’s locker room, addressing the December 2nd incident involving his personal chef in Dedham, Massachusetts. He offered apologies for his recent absence and admitted that the last few weeks have been a tough emotional ride.
While he acknowledged the situation has been “very emotional,” Stefon Diggs made it clear he couldn’t comment on the ongoing legal matter. “It’s definitely an open case so I can’t even say anything about it,” he stated, directing all questions solely to football topics. His priority? Finishing the season strong with his team. He shared, “I’m going to continue to be the guy I’ve been. Try to finish the season strong. We all deal with life stuff, family stuff… being a football team is hard. You band together, you lean on your brothers, you lean on your people that you spend the most time with.”
Even with the Patriots not restricting him, Diggs kept his remarks strictly to the game, reiterating he wouldn’t touch on the allegations or the investigation itself. His stance is firmly on the field, aiming to maintain his usual approach to the remainder of the season.
Details of the Charges Against Stefon Diggs
So, what are the charges? Court documents reveal Diggs is facing felony strangulation or suffocation, plus misdemeanor assault and battery. These serious allegations stem from that December 2nd incident at his Massachusetts home.
The accuser, who was Diggs’ personal chef for the season and living at his home, reported an ongoing financial dispute. She told police a confrontation over money escalated. According to the Dedham police report, she alleged he “smacked her across the face” and then “tried to choke her using the crook of his elbow around her neck.” She also claimed to have difficulty breathing afterward, though the report noted she didn’t provide photos of injuries.
Diggs Denies Allegations Through His Attorney
But Stefon Diggs isn’t taking these claims lying down. Through his attorney, David Meier, he has vehemently denied everything.
Meier’s statement was clear: “Stefon Diggs categorically denies these allegations. They are unsubstantiated, uncorroborated, and were never investigated — because they did not occur.” He suggested the timing of these allegations points to a financial dispute that wasn’t resolved to the chef’s satisfaction. Diggs is ready to fight for the truth in court.
The New England Patriots also weighed in, releasing a statement simply saying, “We support Stefon.”
