New York Fashion Week took over the city from Sept. 10-15, but the style wasn't limited to the runway. Fashion enthusiasts stepped out in bold looks, color-coordinated ensembles and creative styling that showed just how much personality New Yorkers are packing into their outfits this season. While designers held it down indoors, The Root hit the pavement to scope out the stylish looks New Yorkers were serving up.

Martin Luther King Jr. described Birmingham as probably the most thoroughly segregated city in the United States. The city earned the nickname Bombingham after at least 21 bombings targeted Black homes and churches in the eight years leading up to 1963. Yet none resulted in fatalities until September 15, 1963, when a bomb exploded at the 16th Street Baptist Church, killing four young girls during Youth Day.

Chris Brown is slamming Texas State Representative Venton Jones after he apologized for honoring the singer amid backlash. The singer is pissed at Jones for apologizing for appearing on stage with Chris to announce that Chris had been placed in the Congressional Record for his musical and entertainment achievements, along with Usher. Jones made the apology Tuesday on Don Lemon's show after the politician caught heat for honoring a woman abuser, as you know, Brown was convicted of physically abusing Rihanna in 2009.

Producer Todd Tucker directed a graphic, explicit scene for a Tubi movie featuring newly minted peach-holder Shamea Morton getting extremely intimate with famed Atlanta exotic dancer and actor Bolo the Entertainer, causing tension in her marriage to wealthy businessman Gerald Mwangi.

As New York Fashion Week ends, Black designers made sure our influence was felt from the runway to the front row. Familiar heavyweights like LaQuan Smith and Sergio Hudson showcased their latest looks for the Spring/Summer 2027 season, alongside rising stars, including Rachel Scott's Diotima, Keith Herron's Advisry and Jakarie Whitaker's Hikari no Yami.
