Historically Black Colleges and Universities have always been about more than getting a degree. They're places where Black students find community, build confidence, and sometimes meet future business partners. During Black Business Month, we're looking at graduates who took that foundation far beyond campus. Whether in biotech or beauty, entertainment or finance, these entrepreneurs saw problems, had ideas, and decided to build something of their own. Some became household names. Others are still growing their empires. But they all show what can happen when HBCU excellence meets entrepreneurship.

Every year, college rankings get people talking about who made the list and who got snubbed. But some HBCUs are quietly excelling without the same national buzz. As students return to campuses this fall, these hidden gems around the country are making history and supporting Black students in full. From one-of-a-kind academic programs to rising enrollment and investments in the future of Black success, these HBCUs deserve some love too.

Our students are not running from. Our students are running toward. They are running toward Historically Black Colleges and Universities to belong before defending their belonging in the larger world becomes a daily test. That is the story of HBCU enrollment surging, and it's a story that deserves to be told without a foil. They are not settling for us; they are selecting us.

Forbes just released its top HBCU rankings, highlighting the public and private institutions delivering the highest return on investment, graduation rates, and mid-career median pay. The recognition comes as demand for the Black college experience reaches record highs—even as campuses navigate ongoing controversies like financial aid constraints and Howard University's recent unenrollments over unpaid balances. Despite those systemic hurdles, the culture on these campuses remains undeniably rooted in history, pride, hustle, and community.

In just a few weeks, students all over the country will be walking down the various halls of their college campuses to usher in another start of school season. But when it comes to HBCU students in particular, you already know they're going to strut to their campuses in tiptop fashion! That's why we thought it'd be fun to take a look at how some of the students already came to give you a good gauge as to what you can expect here soon.

It may only be mid-summer, but HBCU homecoming chatter is already taking over the timeline! On July 17, North Carolina A&T officially launched its 100-day countdown to the legendary "Greatest Homecoming on Earth," when a record-breaking 200,000 visitors are expected to flood Greensboro for the university's historic centennial celebration, setting the stage for one of the biggest Black cultural events of the year. From NC A&T's landmark 100th anniversary celebration to massive citywide takeovers at Howard University and Jackson State, HBCU homecomings continue to generate multi-million-dollar footprints, evolving into major corporate marketplaces year after year.
