Allen believes the problem is sometimes simpler than people assume: Black patients may not be rejecting clinical trials, they may never have been asked. Representation matters because researchers need diverse data to understand how investigational medicines work across different populations.

On Tuesday night, the 48-year-old father of three went live in a deeply manic state. The Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office responded swiftly to his residence after receiving multiple calls regarding an individual experiencing a life-threatening mental health crisis on camera.

With the news cycle continuing to look more and more abysmal for Black folks, it's more important than ever that people speak up and advocate for the issues that impact our community. That's especially true for Black celebrities who have a responsibility to use their large platforms to send a message to those who need to hear it.
