Gervonta Davis, the talented boxer known in the ring as “Tank,” is facing serious legal troubles. A Maryland judge has issued an arrest warrant connected to his probation in a past hit-and-run case, according to recent reports.
The warrant was signed by Judge Althea M. Handy on April 24 after authorities alleged Gervonta Davis violated probation during an incident with his ex-girlfriend, Courtney Rossel, in Miami last fall. This situation highlights the ongoing challenges some athletes face in their personal lives, much like stories you’d find in an Olympic athlete memoir or hip hop biography—where fame and fortune don’t always shield people from consequences.
The alleged encounter happened on October 27 at Tootsie’s Cabaret, where Rossel worked as a cocktail waitress. Court footage reportedly showed Davis holding Rossel by the back of the neck as he moved her through the club toward a parking garage. Thankfully, Rossel was able to escape before getting into a vehicle and returned inside with coworkers.
Davis was later arrested on felony charges of battery, false imprisonment, and kidnapping. His attorneys managed to get the false imprisonment charges dismissed, but the legal battle continues.
Judge Handy had previously issued a warrant in February after the Miami arrest, but Davis’ legal team successfully pushed to have it withdrawn at that time. They argued he had cooperated with law enforcement, which showed some progress in resolving the matter.
Meanwhile, the WBA recently ordered Davis to defend his lightweight title against Floyd Schofield Jr. Davis has also been making appearances on fellow boxer DeenTheGreat’s livestream, staying active in the boxing community despite these legal challenges.
