The 56th NAACP Image Awards took center stage at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium, celebrating Black excellence across film, television, music, and literature. Beyond the glitz and glamour, the event also delivered powerful messages of advocacy, resilience, and cultural pride.

Notable Winners & Performances

One of the night’s biggest wins came from Netflix’s The Six Triple Eight, directed by Tyler Perry, which won Outstanding Motion Picture. Accepting her award for Outstanding Actress in a Motion Picture, Kerry Washington emphasized the film’s historical significance:

“This isn’t just a film; it’s a history lesson about bravery, sisterhood, and resilience that deserves to be remembered.”

Keke Palmer, crowned Entertainer of the Year, delivered a heartfelt message:

“This is for every young Black girl who’s ever dreamed of being seen and heard. Your voice matters, and your light shines bright.”

She also paid tribute to fellow nominee Cynthia Erivo with an impromptu performance of Defying Gravity.

Dave Chappelle, honored with the President’s Award, used humor and wisdom in his speech:

“Receiving this from the NAACP means more than any Netflix deal. Our stories matter, and our voices echo through history.”

Comedian Deon Cole hosted the ceremony, bringing his signature wit and charm:

In response to the Eaton Fire, the NAACP announced the Altadena Community Preservation Fund, in partnership with BET Media Group, JSSK, and WME. Vice President Kamala Harris, receiving the Chairman’s Award, emphasized the importance of unity:

“In times of crisis, we must stand together, rebuild, and honor the spirit of resilience that defines us.”

The red carpet shone with bold fashion statements:

  • Kamala Harris stunned in a custom LaQuan Smith suit.
  • Kerry Washington dazzled in a Prada floral-appliqué ensemble, saying:

The Wayans Brothers Inducted into the Hall of Fame

The Wayans family—including Damon Wayans, Marlon Wayans, Damon Wayans Jr., and Kim Wayans—took the stage to reflect on their legacy. Marlon Wayans credited their success to their brother Keenen Ivory Wayans:

“Not only can you dream, but you can make your dreams come true.”
