Tiffany Haddish has decided four years is enough. The actress and comedian changed her plea from not guilty to guilty in a Georgia courtroom Tuesday, and she handled the whole thing with her signature humor intact.
Haddish, 46, appeared virtually to resolve a DUI case stemming from her January 2022 arrest in Peachtree City. Police had responded to a report of a driver asleep behind the wheel on a highway. When officers pulled over a vehicle matching the description, Tiffany Haddish was reportedly arriving at a residence. Now, after nearly four years of legal proceedings, she was ready to close the book.
During the hearing, Judge Jason Thompson walked through the standard questions involved in changing her plea. Haddish, very much herself, made clear she wanted the ordeal finished.
“I would like to fuss a little, but in order to get out of your hair, ’cause it’s been four years, and I’d love to take my hair off, I’m gonna go ahead and just agree,” she told the court.
She’d previously tried to get the case dismissed, but a judge rejected that attempt, according to CBS News. The original charges included driving under the influence, failure to obey a traffic control device, improper stopping on a roadway, and a parking violation. She was released on bond in January 2022.
When the judge asked if she wanted more time to consult with her attorneys before finalizing the plea change, Haddish had another one-liner ready.
“No, that’s too expensive,” she said. “I’ve already spent so much on this case.”
After some deep sighs and visible relief, Haddish agreed to the plea deal. The terms include time served and 12 months of probation, along with 40 hours of community service. She plans to complete the service work through advocacy with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, according to Extra.
When the judge mentioned her driver’s license suspension would only apply in Georgia, Haddish’s response was immediate and telling.
“OK cool,” she said. “I don’t plan on being there no time soon. So basically, you want me out of Georgia, that’s for sure!”
Four years after the incident, Haddish has officially moved on.
